Pedodontics

There’s a good chance you likely learned about good oral health and how to take care of your teeth when you were young as your parents took you to the dentist’s office. If this wasn’t the case, perhaps you learned this important lesson later in life.

Either way, coming to the realization that taking care of your teeth will keep them healthy for years to come is a crucial lesson. It’s a lesson that everyone needs to learn, old or young, but it’s much easier to teach children when they’re young.

That’s why Carol Pacheco D.D.S. practices pedodontics.

What Is Pedodontics?

Pedodontics, also known as pediatric dentistry, is a type of dentistry that works to treat and take care of children’s teeth from birth to adolescence. A pediatric dentist is qualified to help take care of your child’s oral health and teeth from the time they start coming in, usually around six months of age.

Children’s mouths undergo a great deal of change during the first 10 years of their lives, so it’s important they receive the pedodontic care and attention they need. At Carol Pacheco D.D.S., we will keep a close eye on your child’s oral health and their teeth as they grow up.

Types of Pedodontics Procedures at Carol Pacheco D.D.S.

Keeping an eye on children’s teeth will ensure they have the best possible chance of healthy adult teeth in the future.

We offer the following types of pedodontic treatments and procedures:

  • Tooth-Colored Fillings: The tooth-colored fillings used for cosmetic and restorative dental treatments can be used for pedodontic treatments as well.
  • Baby Tooth Crowns: In some instances, a cap can be placed over a baby tooth to save a severely damaged tooth or to protect teeth in a child at high risk for tooth decay.
  • Preventive Braces: These types of braces are most often used on younger children between the ages of seven to about nine. Expanders and other orthodontic devices work to correct jaw misalignment and teeth crowding. They can also create space for permanent teeth that will come in later.

We can help your child enjoy smiles for a lifetime through these procedures and others.
